It all started
in October 1996, when I launched my first website. It was very
basic, just something that I could call my corner of the web.
As I learned more about the world wide web, I found that I could
not learn HTML and other languages fast enough. I spent all my
free time surfing the web and learning what other developers were
doing.
In August
1996, I was hired as the lead HTML programmer for a local advertising
company. They had two sites that
they had outsourced to a freelance programmer, and many more clients
interested in a web presence. Now that I was afforded the time
to learn all I could about web development, my professional career
was well under way.
Five sites
and two intranet projects later, my skills and abilities have
grown beyond the simple HTML programmer that I started out as.
My programming, graphic design and project management skills are
just part of my well rounded abilities.
My main programming
languages include HTML and Cold Fusion. ASP, JavaScript, DHTML,
CSS, Visual Basic, VBScript, and Java are all languages
that I can implement into my applications provided I have an example
to follow or the facilities to learn what I need. I learn more
about these languages every day. My future goal is to learn ASP
as in-depth as I have Cold Fusion.
In general,
I prefer to hand-code my pages using Cold Fusion Studio, but I
have been exposed to several of the more popular WYSIWYG type
programs such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Frontpage,
Claris Homepage and Pagemill, and Netobject Fusion, to name a
few. My software repertoire also includes Microsoft Access & SQL, PowerPoint,
Excel, Word, Visio and Office 97, Corel WordPerfect, Macromedia
Flash, and Adobe Photoshop 5.
Database implementation
has become my one of my favorite weapons in my web development
arsenal. Several of the more recent projects have been designed
around database connectivity. My first databases were developed
using Microsoft Access also my more recently projects involve heavy use of Microsoft
Access and SQL Server.
Database design has given me more
control than I could have imagined.
Along with
my programming and database skills, I am well versed in graphic
design. Under the guidance of the Art Director, I learned all
I could about Adobe Photoshop and graphic creation. I have experimented
with several graphic programs, but enjoy Photoshop the most. I
have also used several Photoshop plugins, graphic compression
tools and other graphic manipulation programs.
As the lead
programmer, my project management and coordination skills have
evolved almost as quickly as my other skills. Often with several
sites under development at the same time, I have learned to manipulate
my time accordingly. Working closely with the Art Director and
the client, sites are often launch successfully.
Lastly, all
of my abilities are brought together through the use of Window's
NT and various flavors of servers. I have an overall general
understanding of both types of servers. With all this in hand,
I am able to deliver powerful, fully functional web sites that
produce results.
